Director of Sales and Business Development

Full-time, U.S.-based remote, reports to CEO

We’re seeking a dynamic Director of Sales and Business Development to drive Steady’s aggressive growth strategy.

As a key player in our mission to fix modern work, you’ll help us reach 50,000 tech workers and save companies $250M in opportunity costs. With 5-7 years of SaaS sales experience and a track record of hitting multi-million-dollar targets, you’ll lead our sales efforts, build partnerships, and shape our go-to-market strategy. Join us in our sprint of a lifetime to transform the future of work!

About Steady

We believe work is broken. Product teams and developers waste too much time in unproductive meetings, leading to frustration, lower productivity, and talent churn. At Steady, we help companies eliminate these inefficiencies. Over the next five years, our goal is to save companies over $250 million in opportunity cost by cutting down wasteful meetings and improving productivity.

Our AI-powered tools seamlessly integrate into workflows, helping our clients achieve these outcomes without disrupting their existing processes. Our mission is to help knowledge teams focus on building quality software, retaining top talent, and achieving meaningful business outcomes.

The Role

As the Director of Sales and Business Development, you’ll play a pivotal role in executing Steady’s aggressive growth strategy over the next three years—a time we see as the sprint of a lifetime. Our CEO, who also serves as our Chief Growth Officer, will work hand-in-hand with you as we aim to bring our value to 50,000 software professionals and distributed tech teams in less than five years, while simultaneously helping our clients save over $250M in opportunity costs of needless meetings. You’ll be at the forefront of helping us scale and hit ambitious growth targets, collaborating with other leaders who have been seeded within the company to execute our vision.

Responsibilities

Sales Strategy and Execution

  • Develop, test, and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to generate new business opportunities and drive revenue growth.
  • Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline (4X quota), track progress, and consistently meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Lead discovery sessions to identify customer needs and pain points, ensuring tailored solutions are provided.
  • Develop action plans for key high-growth accounts, identifying both immediate and long-term revenue opportunities across the territory.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work

  • Work cross-functionally with our Enterprise and Agency Partnerships teams to align efforts and identify new sales opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO/Chief Growth Officer and leadership team to align sales and marketing strategies, providing feedback on lead quality and campaign effectiveness.
  • Deliver product feedback to operations leaders to ensure that the voice of the customer is recognized and incorporated into future product enhancements.

Customer-Centric Selling & Storytelling

  • Conduct storytelling-driven product demonstrations that clearly highlight the value Steady brings to clients, emphasizing how our platform can solve their most pressing business challenges.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, nurturing leads throughout the sales cycle to close deals.

Market Insight & Growth

  • Stay updated on industry trends, competitive landscape, and market conditions to position Steady effectively and identify new business opportunities.
  • Participate in industry events and conferences to build awareness, network with prospects, and identify new revenue opportunities.

Operational Excellence

  • Utilize a CRM to track sales activities, manage customer relationships, and generate accurate sales reports and forecasts.
  • Oversee prospecting efforts, perform in-person presentations, facilitate RFPs, and close accounts.
  • Have a strong ability to forecast revenue, predict market trends, and stay ahead of competition across your account list.

What We’re Looking For

  • SaaS Sales Expertise: You have 5-7 years of experience in SaaS sales with a proven track record of hitting or exceeding multi-million-dollar revenue targets. You’ve successfully built pipelines and consistently hit revenue goals, and you’re not relying solely on organic inbound leads to grow your pipeline.
  • Target-Driven: You know how to set and hit revenue targets, consistently meeting and exceeding them. You understand how to craft deals that drive business growth.
  • Consultative Selling & Storytelling: You excel at consultative selling, adept at leading discovery sessions to identify customer pain points, and you have a knack for turning product demonstrations into compelling stories that resonate with clients.
  • Industry Knowledge: You understand how to sell into the CIO and CTO worlds, where “work gets done.” You’ve successfully sold solutions that improve workflow, increase productivity, and make teams more efficient, all while navigating complex enterprise environments.
  • Creative Problem Solver: You bring creativity and fresh ideas to your approach, finding innovative ways to get deals over the line and open new business channels.
  • Partnership Building: You’ve built win-win channel partnerships where business cases and incentives align for both sides, driving mutual success.
  • Presentation Skills: You’re a confident presenter, able to communicate Steady’s value proposition clearly and compellingly to senior stakeholders, executives, and decision-makers.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of sales success in a B2B environment, ideally within SaaS, with 5-7 years of experience in SaaS sales and a demonstrated ability to meet or exceed multi-million-dollar revenue targets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish credibility with potential customers.
  • Excellent organization and closing skills, with a demonstrated ability to navigate long and complex sales cycles.
  • Self-motivated and driven, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience using CRM tools to manage pipelines and sales activities.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients and attend industry events.

Our Interview Process

Our interview process is designed to be as collaborative and insightful as possible, allowing us to get to know you and for you to learn more about Steady. Here’s what you can expect:

Initial Selection

We will select a set of candidates based on the criteria outlined in the job description. If you are selected, you will engage in a process that’s not only about evaluating your qualifications but also about giving you a clear understanding of what we’ve built and where we’re headed.

Collaborative Conversations

During the first round of interviews, we’ll take the time to show you what we’ve built, why we believe it’s valuable, and what our growth plans are. You’ll hear about our target buyers, users, and key influencers, and you’ll have a chance to ask questions and share your thoughts.

At this stage, we want to get to know you. You’ll share who you are, what drives you, and provide specific examples of your past work that align with Steady’s sales vision and goals. This is your opportunity to demonstrate how your experience is relevant to Steady and how you can help us grow.

Final Phase

Selected candidates will move to the final phase. In this phase, you’ll be given a case study based on our users and the buyers we want to target. Your task will be to create a go-to-market (GTM) plan that excites the owners of the company and demonstrates your creativity, strategic thinking, and ability to drive impact.

This is a key part of the process where you will need to prove your craftiness. We’re looking for someone who can shape our growth trajectory and meet the expectations of our shareholders, so your approach here will be critical to determining fit for the role.
