Smart Check-ins
Status updates shouldn’t feel like busywork. Smart Check-ins help teams stay aligned with minimal effort, making it easy to share progress, flag blockers, and keep work moving forward — without adding another meeting to the calendar.
How Smart Check-ins Work
- Steady continuously collects activity from your team’s tools, as it happens.
- People add extra context by responding to daily prompts with quick updates on plans, progress, & blockers.
- Steady distills updates & activity into complete daily snapshots, and shares them with the team via Slack, Microsoft Teams, email, and/or Steady’s Digest.
Instead of writing updates from scratch, Smart Check-ins pull in relevant context automatically, so you can:
- Share meaningful updates in seconds. No more blank-page anxiety. Steady suggests what to include based on recent activity.
- Keep teams aligned effortlessly. Updates are collected and shared in one place, so everyone sees what’s happening at a glance.
- Deliver updates where they belong. Smart Check-ins surface in Slack, Microsoft Teams, email, and Steady’s Digest so the right people see them at the right time.

Why Smart Check-ins?
Everything that's happening, all in one place
Activities from integrated apps like GitHub and Asana are automatically attached to each person’s check-ins for maximum context.
Get up to speed in seconds
Steady automatically distills highlights for a team’s check-ins for the day, so everyone can get the big picture in 30 seconds or less.
Clear blockers fast
Steady surfaces blockers and dependencies in check-ins and notifies team leads, so you can clear the way for your team to keep moving.
Work more proactively
A simple system for setting intentions and tracking progress against them helps teams stay focused on the work that matters most.
Best Practices for Smart Check-ins
- Tell the story the data doesn't. Instead of "SUP-21", something like "I hit a roadblock fixing SUP-21, and need some help to figure it out."
- Keep it short. A good check-in answers: What did I do? What’s next? Anything blocking me? No fluff, just signal.
- Use plain language. Skip the jargon and make it easy for teammates to understand at a glance.
- Update at the right cadence. Some teams check in daily, others a few times a week—find what works for you.
- Mention what matters. Call out dependencies, blockers, or key decisions so your update helps move work forward.
